This kit does NOT support the 5.7L Gen III LS1 V8 fitted to early VZ Commodores — its ECM runs the VPW protocol which is not yet implemented. All other VZ drivetrains are fully supported, including the 3.6L Alloytec V6 (LY7 / LE0), 6.0L L76 V8 and 6.0L LS2 V8 (HSV Z-Series), which all run on CAN-bus.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) in your VZ Commodore manages fuel injection, ignition timing, throttle response, idle control and the immobiliser handshake. When you fit a replacement or second-hand ECM — particularly an Alloytec V6, L76 or LS2 V8 unit pulled from a wrecker — it must be VIN-security-linked to your vehicle before the engine will start, and the full reset & security link may be required if the unit has been previously paired to a different VIN.
This is a DIY kit. We ship you an OBDSync scantool plus the tokens needed to license the module — you run the programming yourself at home using a Windows laptop, and the module never has to leave your vehicle.
