⚠️
Critical — your donor V8 parts must come from a SAME-YEAR VE V8

This is a programming-only service. Before booking, you must already have (or be about to fit) two same-year donor parts in your vehicle:

  • V8 engine computer (ECU) — a factory V8 ECU from a VE built the same year as your car
  • V8 wiring harnesses — the correct factory V8 looms from a VE built the same year as your car

Wrong-year ECU part numbers and harness pinouts are not compatible, even within the VE platform — there are real differences between early VE (Series 1, L98) and late VE (Series 2, L77) wiring and ECU OS. Mismatched parts will not work and we cannot program around the mismatch.

If you’re unsure whether your donor parts are compatible, contact us before ordering — we’ll confirm the right ECU service number and harness for your specific vehicle year.

About This Service

Swapping a V8 engine into a factory-V6 VE Commodore is the easy part — getting the car to actually start, run cleanly and clear all the engine / cluster warnings takes a full module reconfiguration. Without reprogramming, the car will not start and the bus will be full of faults.

This service tailor-programs every required module on your specific vehicle to match a factory V8 configuration. That includes the V8 engine computer (security linked to your car), instrument cluster, and several other modules depending on your build. The required modules differ from car to car — we confirm the exact list once you’ve purchased the service.

All programming is done in the vehicle via OBD-II using OBDSync on a Windows laptop — no shipping required, no modules removed. The kit includes the OBDSync scantool, the required token redemption serial and a full step-by-step guide.

What You Need to Supply

Before this programming service can be performed, you (or your auto electrician) must have fitted the following donor parts to your car — all from a same-year VE V8:

🏎V8 Engine + Mounts — factory L98 (Series 1) or L77 (Series 2) installed, matching your vehicle year
🔌V8 Engine Computer (ECU) — same-year V8 ECU fitted in place of the original V6 unit
🔗V8 Wiring Harnesses — correct same-year V8 looms (engine harness, body harness as required)
⚙️Compatible Transmission — matched to your vehicle year (e.g. don’t fit a 2012 6‑speed in a 2007 VE — OS issues will prevent it working)
📢
Year-matching matters more than anything else

Throughout the VE platform’s production run (2006–2013), both the V8 ECU operating systems and the wiring harness pinouts changed. Donor parts pulled from a different model year will have different connectors, different ECU part numbers and incompatible firmware — they will not work, and no amount of programming will fix it. Match the year before you buy this service.

What Gets Reprogrammed

We tailor-program every module that needs to match the new V8 configuration. The exact list depends on your specific vehicle — confirmed after you purchase — but typically includes:

🔐Engine Computer (ECU) Security Link — your new V8 ECU is linked to your vehicle’s security set so the car will start
⚙️V8 OS & Calibrations — programmed into the engine computer so it knows it’s running the V8
📊Instrument Cluster — updated for V8 operation, correct tacho range and cluster behaviour
🔌Other supporting modules — varies per build, all walked through in your supplied guide
🔐
All your factory modules are retained

We do not require any modules to be modified, swapped or replaced — other than the engine computer itself (you fit the V8 ECU). Every other existing ECU stays in the car and is reprogrammed in place to match a factory V8 setup.

How It Works — 3 Simple Steps

1

Order & Receive the Kit

Provide your VIN at checkout. We ship the OBDSync scantool, your printed token redemption serial, and a step-by-step guide covering every module that needs reprogramming on your specific car.

2

Install OBDSync & Redeem Your Serial

Download & install OBDSync on a Windows laptop. Create or sign in to your OBDSync account, then enter your redemption serial to add the required tokens to your own account.

3

Plug In & Reprogram

Plug the scantool into your VE’s OBD-II port and follow the supplied guide to security link the V8 ECU and reprogram each required module in sequence. All required modules listed in your printed guide must be completed for the conversion to function correctly.

What’s Included in Your Kit

  • OBDSync Scantool — USB-to-OBD-II adapter, works with all VE Commodore models
  • Printed Token Redemption Serial — covers all tokens required for your specific conversion
  • OBDSync Software Access — free Windows download with lifetime updates
  • Step-by-step conversion guide — lists every module that needs reprogramming on your vehicle and walks through each one in order
✖️ Not included — the V8 hardware: You must source and fit your own same-year V8 engine, V8 ECU and V8 wiring harnesses before booking. We do not supply hardware and do not provide wiring guidance or troubleshooting.
ⓘ Please note: We do not pre-load tokens onto your account at the time of ordering. You apply the tokens yourself by entering the supplied redemption serial inside OBDSync after install.

Important — Please Read Before Ordering

🔗 Same-year V8 ECU & harnesses required

Your donor V8 engine computer and wiring harnesses must come from a VE V8 of the same year as your vehicle. Wrong-year ECU part numbers and looms will not work. We do not supply hardware and we do not provide wiring diagrams, wiring guidance or troubleshooting.

⚙️ Compatible transmission required

Your transmission must be compatible with your vehicle’s year, not the donor V8’s year. Fitting a late-VE 6‑speed in an early VE (or vice versa) will cause OS compatibility issues — the car will throw faults and refuse to drive correctly.

📢 Contact us first to confirm suitability

Every VE V6-to-V8 conversion is slightly different. Please get in touch before ordering so we can verify your donor ECU service number, harnesses and transmission combination will work with this programming service.

📝 Modules confirmed after purchase

The exact list of modules to be reprogrammed varies per vehicle and is confirmed in your guide once the service has been purchased. Pre-purchase “which modules?” queries will be ignored — the answer is genuinely build-specific and pulling that information together takes time we’d rather spend on paying conversions.

Compatible Vehicles

Works on all Holden VE Commodore vehicles (2006–2013) factory-fitted with a V6 engine, when converting to a same-year factory V8:

Commodore VE Series 1 (Omega, Berlina, SV6) — 2006–2010 • target L98 V8
Commodore VE Series 2 (Omega, Berlina, SV6) — 2010–2013 • target L77 V8
Calais V6 (Series 1 & 2)
VE Sportwagon & Ute V6 variants
🔍 Target V8s by era: Series 1 (2006–2010) — donor V8 must be L98 6.0L. Series 2 (2010–2013) — donor V8 must be L77 6.0L. Crossing eras (e.g. L77 into a Series 1 VE) is not supported by this service due to ECU OS and harness incompatibility.

System Requirements

💻
Windows Laptop Required

OBDSync runs on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit only). A laptop is recommended so you can sit in the car with the scantool plugged into the OBD-II port. A free USB-A port is required.

📝
