The Engine Control Module (ECM) manages fuel injection, ignition timing, throttle response, idle control and the immobiliser handshake on your Caprice PPV. The 2014–2017 V8 ECM also runs Active Fuel Management (AFM / DOD) — the cylinder-deactivation system — which can be permanently disabled in software for lifter / fuel-economy reasons. When you fit a replacement or second-hand ECM, it must be VIN-security-linked to your vehicle before it will start and run correctly.
This is a DIY kit. We ship you an OBDSync scantool plus the tokens needed to license the module — you run the programming yourself at home using a Windows laptop, and the module never has to leave your vehicle.
