The SDM is the airbag controller — it decides whether and when to deploy front, side, and curtain airbags plus seat-belt pretensioners. Only buy this kit if you are replacing a known-faulty SDM with a known-good unit, the SRS hardware has no impact damage, and you have disconnected the battery and waited the required time before handling any airbag components. If in doubt, have it done by a qualified workshop.
The Sensing & Diagnostic Module (SDM) is the airbag controller in your Chevrolet SS — it monitors front and side crash sensors plus rollover / yaw, decides whether and when to deploy airbags and seat-belt pretensioners, and records crash event data. When the SDM is replaced, it must have the latest factory calibrations flashed and be VIN-security-linked to your vehicle before the SRS / airbag warning light will clear.
This is a DIY kit. We ship you an OBDSync scantool plus the tokens needed to license the module — you run the programming yourself at home using a Windows laptop, and the module never has to leave your vehicle.
