The SDM is the airbag controller. It decides whether and when to deploy front, side and curtain airbags, and seat-belt pre-tensioners. Misuse can compromise occupant protection or cause unintended deployment.
Only buy this kit if: (1) you are replacing a known-faulty SDM with a known-good unit, (2) the airbag system has no impact damage / pending physical deployment, and (3) you have already disconnected the battery and waited the required time before handling any SRS hardware. If in doubt, have it done by a qualified workshop.
The Sensing & Diagnostic Module (SDM) is the airbag controller in your JH Cruze — it monitors front and side crash sensors and rollover / yaw, decides whether and when to deploy front, side, curtain, and seat-belt pretensioner devices, and records crash event data. When the SDM is replaced — or you want to push the latest factory calibrations — the unit needs to be security linked to your VIN before the SRS / airbag warning light clears.
All programming is done in the vehicle via OBD-II using OBDSync on a Windows laptop — no need to remove or ship the SDM.
