DIY VE V6-to-V8 Conversion Programming Kit — reconfigure every module on your VE Commodore so it runs cleanly with a swapped-in factory V8 drivetrain.
Programming is performed using OBDSync on a Windows laptop with the supplied scantool and tokens — security links your new V8 engine computer, programs the cluster and all required modules, and runs the necessary relearns. All done in your driveway.
Please contact us before ordering to confirm your specific V8 setup is suitable for this programming service.
Reconfigure every required module on your VE Commodore for a factory V8 drivetrain. We tailor-program the engine computer, instrument cluster and all supporting modules to match a factory V8 configuration — including security linking your new V8 ECU to the car. DIY kit ships with an OBDSync scantool and the required token redemption serial, programmed in your driveway from a Windows laptop.
This is a programming-only service. Before booking, you must already have (or be about to fit) two same-year donor parts in your vehicle:
Wrong-year ECU part numbers and harness pinouts are not compatible, even within the VE platform — there are real differences between early VE (Series 1, L98) and late VE (Series 2, L77) wiring and ECU OS. Mismatched parts will not work and we cannot program around the mismatch.
If you’re unsure whether your donor parts are compatible, contact us before ordering — we’ll confirm the right ECU service number and harness for your specific vehicle year.
Swapping a V8 engine into a factory-V6 VE Commodore is the easy part — getting the car to actually start, run cleanly and clear all the engine / cluster warnings takes a full module reconfiguration. Without reprogramming, the car will not start and the bus will be full of faults.
This service tailor-programs every required module on your specific vehicle to match a factory V8 configuration. That includes the V8 engine computer (security linked to your car), instrument cluster, and several other modules depending on your build. The required modules differ from car to car — we confirm the exact list once you’ve purchased the service.
All programming is done in the vehicle via OBD-II using OBDSync on a Windows laptop — no shipping required, no modules removed. The kit includes the OBDSync scantool, the required token redemption serial and a full step-by-step guide.
Before this programming service can be performed, you (or your auto electrician) must have fitted the following donor parts to your car — all from a same-year VE V8:
Throughout the VE platform’s production run (2006–2013), both the V8 ECU operating systems and the wiring harness pinouts changed. Donor parts pulled from a different model year will have different connectors, different ECU part numbers and incompatible firmware — they will not work, and no amount of programming will fix it. Match the year before you buy this service.
We tailor-program every module that needs to match the new V8 configuration. The exact list depends on your specific vehicle — confirmed after you purchase — but typically includes:
We do not require any modules to be modified, swapped or replaced — other than the engine computer itself (you fit the V8 ECU). Every other existing ECU stays in the car and is reprogrammed in place to match a factory V8 setup.
Provide your VIN at checkout. We ship the OBDSync scantool, your printed token redemption serial, and a step-by-step guide covering every module that needs reprogramming on your specific car.
Download & install OBDSync on a Windows laptop. Create or sign in to your OBDSync account, then enter your redemption serial to add the required tokens to your own account.
Plug the scantool into your VE’s OBD-II port and follow the supplied guide to security link the V8 ECU and reprogram each required module in sequence. All required modules listed in your printed guide must be completed for the conversion to function correctly.
Your donor V8 engine computer and wiring harnesses must come from a VE V8 of the same year as your vehicle. Wrong-year ECU part numbers and looms will not work. We do not supply hardware and we do not provide wiring diagrams, wiring guidance or troubleshooting.
Your transmission must be compatible with your vehicle’s year, not the donor V8’s year. Fitting a late-VE 6‑speed in an early VE (or vice versa) will cause OS compatibility issues — the car will throw faults and refuse to drive correctly.
Every VE V6-to-V8 conversion is slightly different. Please get in touch before ordering so we can verify your donor ECU service number, harnesses and transmission combination will work with this programming service.
The exact list of modules to be reprogrammed varies per vehicle and is confirmed in your guide once the service has been purchased. Pre-purchase “which modules?” queries will be ignored — the answer is genuinely build-specific and pulling that information together takes time we’d rather spend on paying conversions.
Workshop discounts are available after completing more than 2 VE V6-to-V8 programming conversions with us. Get in touch with your trade details and we’ll set you up.
Works on all Holden VE Commodore vehicles (2006–2013) factory-fitted with a V6 engine, when converting to a same-year factory V8:
OBDSync runs on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit only). A laptop is recommended so you can sit in the car with the scantool plugged into the OBD-II port. A free USB-A port is required.
When you add this product to your cart you’ll be asked for your VIN so we can confirm the conversion scope for your specific vehicle and tailor the supplied guide accordingly. Your scantool and printed token redemption serial are dispatched once your order is processed — you then redeem that serial yourself inside OBDSync to apply the tokens to your account.
DIY kit only — full VE V6-to-V8 conversion programmed from your driveway. Same-year V8 ECU & harnesses must be fitted before programming. Contact us first to confirm suitability.
